Built to Last
Shelby and Cameron starred in a television show together as teenagers years ago, and they were each others’ first loves. But their romance ended abruptly when Cameron left for college, not even saying goodbye. Soon after, a heartbroken Shelby began dating their pompous co-star, Lyle. Years after their very public breakup, Shelby is surprised to hear from her now tv-producer ex, Lyle, who wants to start a home renovation show starring Shelby and Cameron! Although almost ten years have passed since they’ve been together, the pair seems to pick up right where they left off. At the same time, Lyle pushes their buttons and can’t seem to let go of the past.
I loved this one! It delivered a romance that wasn’t cheesy and I couldn’t help but binge-read Built to Last. Although the trope didn’t feel new – first loves reunite and old feelings are stirred up – it felt more authentic. Cameron and Shelby are witty and charming, and I rooted for them throughout. The best friend characters, Kevin and Loralei, add humor and bring out the pair’s innermost secrets. This was a fun read, and the home renovation show angle made it addicting. I highly recommend this book!
